This project is to dive in the potential connection between human activity and physical objects. It looks into how the stains tell stories themselves and how people interpret the patterns instinctively.

Story begins —

While we need refreshments in our daily life, we often have a cup of coffee/tea. However, we seldom noticed the stains. When it got dry, the pattern came into view. Those random and unique patterns became a trace of our personal activity on drinking, which was the smallest interlude of the refreshments at the same time.

Astrology —

When I made colour invert with strong black and white effect into the patterns, they brought the potential feeling of universe and astrology. I made a video about the collection of cups themselves, using the sewing line originally in the cup to act as a clock hand, expressing the passing of time, which is an important element of my project.

Digitalisation —

After the methods above, I came up with the idea: what if people could scan the stains/pattern themselves and build up their own data base in an app. From there I framed the base of the user journey and create the interface as mockup.
